Makita logotype font

Date: Jan 2012
Category: Type Design

The goal of this project was to create a typeface starting from a famous brand logotype; me and my team chose Makita, a worldwide famous Japanese power tool producer. The most characterizing thing we did notice (apart from the mixture of round and straight angles) was that in this logotype all the letters are connected, and so we decided to focus on it and to build our typeface.
We started sketching all the letters with all the different kinds of possible variables we could think about, then we selected the best ones and focused on kerning and details.

After that we built the typeface basic grid on Illustrator and started vectorizing each letter and glyph polishing all the differences.
Finally, all the vectors were passed into FontLab Studio for creating the final TrueType file.
